Maryville high school students take part in Roadway Safety Day

Vehicles leaving Maryville High School were checked for seat belts yesterday as part of the Missouri Department of Transportation and Coalition for Roadway Safety's "Buckle Up Phone Down" Day.

Communications Specialist with MoDOT Marcia Johnson says it was a way for students to educate their peers on safety.

"Maryville High School is one of the schools that's participating in our It Only Takes One Program which encourages student leaders throughout the school to help educate their peers on the effects that traffic issues can have on their lives.  And really trying to save more young people's lives as they do become drivers."

Students gave out candy, Buckle Up Phone Down stickers, and information on safety.
